Violence is endemic in many parts of Central America, a legacy of recent internal conflict. I recently translated an evaluation report about an inspiring youth violence prevention project in Guatemala which I wanted to share with you.
The project works with young people in vulnerable communities and includes parenting courses and training for young people to lead sports and leisure activities in their communities. The focus is on positive activities, building up resilience, self-esteem and skills in young people at risk of violence.
The project is being delivered locally through a consortium of local organisations led by YMCA Guatemala, and supported internationally by Y Care International. You can also find some interesting videos about the project (in Spanish) by YMCA Guatemala.
