My name is Abbi Gutierrez. I am a native British English speaker and a professional translator based in Bristol, UK. I have lived, worked and studied in Spain, Mexico and Peru, and have family living in South West France.
I translate from Spanish (with a particular focus on Latin American Spanish) and French into English.
After studying French at A-level, I then fell in love with the Spanish language while travelling in Latin America and teaching English in a rural village at the foothills of the Peruvian Andes. On my return to the UK I began my degree in Languages and Contemporary European Studies at the University of Southampton. After graduation I followed my heart to Guadalajara, Mexico where I worked as an intern on an EU export project, and as an in-house translator and teacher at Linguas Centre for Languages and Translation. On returning to the UK I joined a public sector graduate programme which led me undertake a range of roles in economic development, citizen participation, governance and democratic services, and policy development. During this time I gained my Masters degree.
In 2007 I set myself up as a freelance translator, combining my language skills with my public sector experience and passion for social justice to offer high quality translation and interpreting services with a focus on ethical trade and international development. I also work on an ad-hoc basis as an English teacher for OISE, a prestigious language school, where I teach courses in exam preparation and high level writing skills.
